Fanta Shokata
500 mL bottle 2.01 g sugar / oz. |
History Coca-Cola-owned Fanta sells over 100 different flavors of Fanta sodas around the world. Many are tailored to the tastes and traditions of different regions and are only available in those places. Fanta Shokata is Fanta's version of socată, a traditional Balkan drink made from elderberry flowers mixed with lemon and honey or sugar along with other spices. Some home-made recipes are left to ferment for several days to carbonate the drink. Review Pouring it into a glass, I'm a little disappointed that this drink isn't blue like the bottle. Instead its sort of a half-cloudy bluish-white color. It doesn't have a strong smell... what will it taste like? Uh, a cleaning product? It has a mild flavor with just enough lemon to suggest a bathroom cleaner. A few sips later I'm better enjoying the mild elderberry flavor. Its a mellow drink, dampened further because the plastic bottle may have lost some of its carbonation. A faintly floral sort of fruit flavor, reminds me of a lychee. I'm glad the drink isn't as sweet or salty as a 7UP or other agressive lemon soda. This is very relaxed and mild.
